This newly evolved course is an evidence-based interprofessional training program that prepares members of the entire maternity care team to better manage obstetric emergencies through teaching standardized approaches to care. This comprehensive course encourages team-based learning amongst physicians, residents, nurse midwives, and registered nurses in order to improve patient safety and positively impact maternal outcomes. Learners will successfully complete required online course elements at their own pace prior to attending the one-day live portion of the course.

ALSO Asia-Pacific is a not for profit organisation whose primary function is to provide courses in the management of obstetric emergencies, under licence from the American Academy of Family Physicians. The ALSO course is recognised both in Australia and internationally for excellence in obstetric education. It is recommended that maternity care providers complete the course every years.

A previously-validated survey tool was given immediately pre- and post-course and six months post-course. The survey tool included demographic questions and Likert scales to self-assess comfort managing 13 common obstetric emergencies including postpartum hemorrhage, maternal resuscitation, and preeclampsia. Nineteen ALSO learners completed the 6 month post-training questionnaire.
