Haute Coiffure tells the story of the crazy life and even crazier work of Charlie Le Mindu, fashion's irreverent and revolutionary hair stylist and designer—turned couturier, turned artist, turned everything. A fixture on the London club scene in the Nu Rave days of the late s, Le Mindu created hairpieces for Lady Gaga during the height of her career before launching his own label at London Fashion Week. Haute Coiffurewhich translates to something like High Hairfeatures photography by the likes of Ellen von Umwerth and Tim Walker and is the first book for Le Mindu, who now works out of Paris where he's shown on the haute couture schedule in recent years.

Fashion watchers remain divided on whether it was bare cheek or bare minimalism, but nudity was the order of the day at Charlie Le Mindu's London Fashion Week show yesterday when the fledgling French designer sent naked models down the catwalk. Le Mindu, who launched his label last year, is a celebrity hairdresser turned headgear designer whose hats have been worn by Lady Gaga. But the year-old Le Mindu did not need a star to guarantee him headlines for his off-schedule London fashion week show.

The first model sent on the catwalk was totally naked, and covered in dripping blood red paint. Coiffure-wise, the models were sporting for the first time soft natural blonde hair, and hair was also used fringing on outfits. Art de vivre.
Charlie Le Mindu wants to be the Dolly Parton of hairdressers. Last year, the French wig wizard expanded his "haute coiffure" empire with a multidisciplinary drag cabaret spectacular inspired by Parton's Tennessee amusement park Dollywood. It's easy to see why Le Mindu is attracted to the campy, escapist nature of theme parks, but Charliewood isn't what you would call a family-friendly experience, unless your parents are nudists.
